Internship Movement Science/Biomechanical Engineering (Kinetics in Gait Analysis)

Job description

We are always looking for talented and ambitious interns to join Movella. Our internship program gives you the opportunity to become a full member of the Movella family. You will not only work with our innovative products, but you will also learn more about your strengths. An internship at Movella gives you the opportunity to work on real projects and have loads of fun along the way.

Your assignment at Movella

Gait analysis is largely used in the rehabilitation protocols of multiple musculoskeletal disorders or injuries. Movella already has a commercialized version of a Gait report with the kinematic outputs from our IMU-based motion capture system. From this analysis, temporal and spatial parameters are calculated, as well as joint kinematics trajectories.

Due to the increase of interest in combining kinematic with kinetic data for a more accurate diagnosis, since 2017, Movella has put in a lot of effort to use Xsens motion capture data to drive the musculoskeletal model in AnyBody to predict kinetics and ground reaction forces.

This project will focus on the validation of the kinetics outputs from the AnyBody model obtained using only the Xsens motion capture system against the outputs obtained using optical motion capture and force plates.

The main goal of this project is to validate the kinetic outputs from the AnyBody model driven by Xsens motion capture against a similar model driven by optical motion capture and force plates. The secondary goal consists of doing a literature review to provide a clinical interpretation of the combination of the kinematic and the kinetics outputs that are displayed in the gait report. Optionally, if time allows, a third goal will be to implement calculations for innovative parameters that combine the kinematic and the kinetic parameters based on the findings investigated in the literature review.

Key challenges:

  •  Create a scientific report about the research done, methods, results, discussion, and conclusions
  • Create programming scripts that were developed during the project

Please note that you actually need to be enrolled in a school or university in order to be considered for an internship.

Almost or already graduated? Please take a look at our current vacancies or send in an open application via jobs@movella.com.

Requirements

We are particularly eager to find interns with these skills and expertise:

  • Moderate level of programming (the project will be developed in Python)
  • Biomechanical modeling knowledge
  • Familiarization with optical motion capture and optical motion capture data post-processing
  • Knowledge of Xsens motion capture technology is a plus
  • Fluency in English is a must
